Pre & Post Care

PRE-CARE FOR ALL TREATMENTS

In order for fresh micropigmentation to heal properly and look sharp, one must follow the following Pre-Care instructions. Pre-Care instructions are designed to limit bleeding and skin sensitivities during the service. Excessive bleeding during the procedure will dilute the pigment color and lead to poor healed results. Pigment when mixed with blood will change the color result, appearing

more ashy/cool/purple.

1. Do not work out 48 hours before the procedure. The body can burn for up to 36 hours after a work- out and body heat expands the pores making it harder to retain the pigment.

2. No alcohol, Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, or Pepto-Bismol 48 hours before the treatment. They may cause thinning of the blood.

3. No caffeine the day of the treatment - It may make your client jittery. Although caffeine is not a blood thinner, it will increase blood pressure which can then cause more bleeding.

4. Avoid sun and tanning on the face 2 weeks prior to the procedure. We cannot work on compromised skin.

5. Avoid fish oil, prenatal vitamins, nutritional shakes, and “Hair-Skin-Nails” supplements – They can increase bleeding time or thin the blood.

6. Discontinue Retin-A, Chemical & Laser peels, Microdermabrasion, Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA),

and any chemical exfoliants or “brightening” skincare at least 6 weeks prior to procedure. (Once brows are healed,

avoid use of these products near the eyebrows for prevention of premature fading.)

7. Botox and filler on the forehead, temple, and eye area should be done3 weeks prior or 2 months after the procedure. Symmetry can be hard to balance with too recent of Botox.

8. No waxing, tinting, or threading 1 week prior to the procedure. The more natural hair you have the better. Also, waxing may cause a breakout.

9. PLEASE NOTE: One may be more sensitive during their menstrual cycle!

10. Clients who smoke cigarettes skin have delayed wound healing and accelerated Cigarette smoke contains carbon monoxide, which displaces the oxygen in your skin, and nicotine, aging.

POST-CARE

EYEBROW MICRO PIGMENTATION AFTER CARE

After-care instructions are designed to keep bacteria out/away from your fresh wound and help deliver great healed results.

Microblading procedures are affected by the “canvas” (your skin) that they are performed on. Lifestyle, medications, smoking, metabolism, facial surgery and other procedures, and age of skin all contribute tofading. The initial application is always applied conservatively because every person’s skin is different, andthe final color can only be precisely determined and adjusted during a follow-up appointment after the initial application has fully healed. Because of this, the micropigmentation process is not complete after the initial procedure. In all cases, a follow-up appointment is required approximately 30 days after your initial application to fine tune and ensure the best result.

EYEBROW AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS

We love a good acronym so here’s one to help you out, just think of A - W - M which stands for Absorb, Wash, and Moisturize!

ABSORB - Day Of

  • After the procedure, gently blot the area with an unscented baby wipe to absorb excess lymph fluid.

  • Do this every 5 minutes until the oozing has stopped.

  • Removing this fluid prevents hardening of the lymphatic fluids.

WASH (Days 1-7)

  • Wash daily to remove bacteria, build up of product and oils, and dead skin. (Don't worry, THIS DOES NOT REMOVE THE PIGMENT!)

  • Gently wash the area each morning and night with a water wipes or unscented baby wipe. With a very light touch, gently wipe the area.

  • To dry, gently pat with a paper towel. DO NOT use any cleansing products containing acids (glycolic, lactic, or

AHA), or exfoliants.

MOISTURIZE AND HYDRATE (Days 1-7)

  • Apply a tiny, rice grain amount of Aquaphore once a day with a cotton swab and spread it across the treated area.

  • Be sure not to over-apply, as this will suffocate your skin and delay healing. The product should be barely noticeable on the skin.

  • NEVER put the product on wet/damp freshly tattooed eyebrows.

AWM should have you covered, but here are some extra tips to help with a smooth and easy recovery: IMPORTANT INFO:

• Use a fresh pillowcase while you sleep.

  • Let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate away. Picking can cause scarring or loss of color.

  • No facials, botox, chemical treatments or microdermabrasion for 4 weeks.

  • Avoid hot, sweaty exercise for one week.

  • Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for 4 weeks after the procedure. Wear a hat when outdoors.

  • Avoid long, hot showers for the first 10 days.

  • Avoid sleeping on your face for the first 10 days.

  • Avoid face-down swimming, lakes, and hot tubs for the first 10 days,

  • Avoid topical makeup and sunscreen on the area.

  • DO NOT rub, pick, or scratch the treated area.

IMPORTANT INFO FOR SHOWERING:

  • Limit your showers to 5 minutes so that you do not create too much steam. Keep your face/procedure area out of the water while you wash your body, then, at the end of your shower, wash your hair.

  • Your face should only be getting wet only at the end of the shower.

  • Avoid excessive rinsing and hot water on the treated area.

WET VS. DRY HEALINGThis is where things get misconstrued. Many artists tell their clients not to wash the area for the entire healing time. Client’s mistake this for a “dry healing method” in actuality, this is what the different healing methods are:

  • The wet healing method - applying a product to the area after washing the area

  • The dry healing method - not applying any product to the area after washing the area.

  • But, what method actually promotes best healing?

The wet method of daily washing to reduce the buildup of bacteria and dead skin coupled with the application of an aftercare product allows the skin to heal fastest and so your beautiful artwork can show thru.

Applying aftercare creams will help to produce the proper cells to regenerate the surrounding tissues. It can also help the production of collagen, a protein that is essential for the proper healing and regeneration of damaged tissue. The method consists of daily cleansing of the injured skin to prevent bacterial buildup, as well as the application of a healing ointment.

Lip Blush Tattoo After Care

It is very important to remove the lymph fluid from the surface of the skin in order to avoid heavy scabbing. Before bed, if the lips still have some dry lymph, rinse with lukewarm water, gently removing the dry lymph, pat dry and apply Aquaphor Healing Ointment. Sometimes the lips can bruise even after the procedure. Bruising will subside within 24 hours post procedure.

Day 2 - 7

The lips may be swollen the second day as well. Please do not ice the lips. Keep the skin moist at all times, do not let the lips dry out. Continue to apply ointment every 30 minutes throughout the day. Again, do NOT let the lips dry out.

During Day 1 to Day 7 (or until the scabs are gone) Please Avoid: Water (on the PMU area) aside from cleaning them Makeup

  • Excessive sweating Sauna Pools

    Sunbathing

  • Spicy food Kissing

DO NOT pick the dry lips.
Do not apply anything besides Aquaphor ointment (no Vaseline, antibiotic creams, Polysporin etc). Following the procedure, do not use creams that contain acids or ingredients that will lighten or exfoliate the skin. Touchups (if needed) can be done no sooner than 8 weeks after the original appointment.

Piercing After Care

CARING FOR YOUR NEW PIERCING

Let’s start with two very important things to remember:

DO NOT TOUCH YOUR PIERCING. The only time you will touch your piercing is when you are cleaning it, and you

will first wash your hands. DO NOT REMOVE YOUR JEWELRY. New piercings can shrink the moment jewelry is removed, making it painful or impossible to get it back in.

WHAT IS NORMAL DURING THE HEALING PROCESS:

  • Bleeding, bruising, and/or swelling are fairly common with a new piercing.

  • Some tenderness or discomfort in the area of a new piercing can be expected for several days or longer.

  • Discoloration (redness) and itching during healing process are also fairly common.

  • Secretion of a whitish-yellow fluid (not pus) is part of the healing process and is to be expected. It is liquid when it leaves the body but dries into “crusties.”

  • Piercings will go through “ups and downs” while healing. They may seem healed for a while, and then regress.

  • The key is to continue your cleaning routine throughout initial healing time.

  • Piercings (including healed piercings) that are not cleaned daily may smell unpleasant. This does not necessarily indicate a problem.

  • Jewelry should not be expected to rotate or move freely in most piercings, even after healing.

  • Most piercings will shrink or close very quickly if the jewelry is removed, so if you like your piercing it is vital to

LEAVE YOUR JEWELRY IN AT ALL TIMES!

    PIERCING AFTER-CARE CLEANING

Wash your hands thoroughly. Either spray the saline directly on the piercing to liberally flush the piercing, or soak a

non-woven gauze in saline and apply that to the piercing, keeping it saturated for 10 minutes, 2 times daily.

You may need to use a q-tip or non-woven gauze to clean away any debris or “crusties” that may have collected on the jewelry around the piercing. It is not necessary to rinse this product away, however if you do rinse make sure it’s with clean, running water. If your jewelry is threaded (barbells, etc.) check it to make sure it’s still tight! Remember “righty tighty, lefty loosey.” YOU MAY USE STERILE WOUND-CARE SALINE MORNING AND EVENING AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO SEA SALT WATER SOAKS Sterile wound-care saline spray does not have all the benefits of a warm soak, but it is a more convenient alternative when a warm soak isn’t a viable option. Do not touch your piercing without first washing your hands.

TATTOO After Care

Congratulations on your new tattoo! By following these simple instructions, the healing process should be quick and easy.

First Day/Night

Keep the bandage on for a minimum of 6 hours. We recommend keeping it on overnight provided the dressing feels comfortable and secure. If you decide to remove the bandage before going to sleep, follow the instructions in the next section to properly remove the bandage and clean your tattoo.

On your first night, there’s a chance your tattoo will still bleed. The blood can dry overnight and stick to your clothes or bedding. If this happens, gently take the fabric off. DO NOT force it off or be rough with it. If it still does not come off, wet the area with lukewarm water and gently slide it off.

Fresh tattoos sometimes “weep” during the first couple of days, meaning that plasma and ink form a thin moist coating on the skin. This can be DABBED with a clean paper towel. Press the paper towel to the skin and remove. Do not wipe the tattoo or be rough with it. Do not panic when you see the colors of the tattoo on the paper towel, or on your hands as you clean it. This is simply excess ink being secreted from the surface or the skin.

To avoid stains, use towels and bedsheets with darker tones and wear dark clothing.

Taking off the Bandage and Cleaning Your Tattoo

Before you start, make sure your hands are clean and you have unscented antibacterial soap ready. Avoid soap with fragrance, moisture beads or scrubs.

  1. Carefully remove the bandage and tape. If you feel the bandage sticking to the tattoo, wet it with lukewarm water and gently slide it off.

    1. Make a lather in your hands with soap and warm water. NO washcloths, bath towels, or sponges on a fresh tattoo.

    2. Gently clean the tattoo using a circular motion until all ointment and plasma are removed.

    3. Rinse the tattoo gently until the skin is clean.

    4. Pat dry with a clean towel or paper towel then allow to fully air dry for a minimum of 10 minutes. DO NOT SCRUB.

    5. Once the tattoo is dry, apply a very small amount of Aquaphor or Bacitracin. Gently rub the ointment into your tattoo. Dab any excess off with a clean paper towel.

Applying too much ointment can cause your tattoo to “suffocate.” Apply only a very thin coat so your tattoo can breathe.

Clean your tattoo this way once a day in the shower for the first 2-3 days.

There is no need to re-bandage the tattoo, but please be mindful that your tattoo is a wound and when unwrapped, it is prone to dirt and bacteria which may cause infection. Avoid direct contact with any surface.

Your Daily Tattoo Aftercare Routine

Apply the Aquaphor or Bacitracin 2-3 times a day (Remember, keep it light!) for the first 5-7 days or until your tattoo starts to flake/peel like a sunburn. When the peeling begins, switch to a regular FRAGRANCE FREE lotion such as Lubriderm, or any other fragrance free brand for an additional 2 weeks.

Your tattoo should be completely healed within 4 weeks.

If you have extremely sensitive skin, the lotion may cause breakouts. If this happens, just reduce the number of your daily lotion application.

After the first few days, your tattoo may become itchy or begin to form flaky scabs. They will fall off on their own, so DO NOT PICK OR SCRATCH AT YOUR TATTOO. Doing so can cause some of the pigment to disappear, and your tattoo may not heal properly. Keep it moisturized and the scabs will eventually dissipate.

Important Dos and Don’ts

  • Clean towels, bedding and clothes are highly recommended during the healing process.

  • Showering is fine, however, please DO NOT soak your tattoo for at least 2 weeks. This means no swimming, baths or submerging your tattoo in water for long periods of time.

  • Avoid direct sunlight on your tattoo for at least 2 weeks and your tattoo is completely healed. After that, we advise putting on a sunblock (minimum SPF 50) on your tattoo whenever you find yourself in direct sunlight for the rest of your life. The sun will undoubtedly cause damage and compromise the longevity of your tattoo.

  • Wear loose clothing (preferably cotton) and avoid constricting accessories like bra straps and tight waistbands over a fresh tattoo. Avoid dirty, sweaty or itchy clothing as they can create healing problems.
